InsPAWed Episode 17 Guest: Sarah Power – How Clara Went From Fearful Street Dog to Teacher

In this episode of insPAWed, we sit down with dog trainer Sarah Power to share the remarkable story of Clara, a former street dog from Texas whose journey from fear to trust changed both of their lives. When Sarah first met Clara in 2022, Clara was deeply fearful of people. Building trust took months of patience, consistency, and allowing Clara to move at her own pace. Eventually, Sarah became someone Clara could rely on. Years later, when Clara's previous human became seriously ill and could no longer care for her, Sarah stepped in. What began as an emergency plan eventually became Clara's permanent home. And Clara kept growing. Today, the once fearful dog who struggled to trust people hikes regularly with Sarah, has begun her New Hampshire 4,000-footer journey, and even landed a background role in the Apple TV series Widows Bay. Clara has also become an important part of Sarah's work as a dog trainer. She serves as a demonstration dog in obedience classes, a neutral presence for reactive dogs, and a patient teacher for young puppies. Her story is a reminder of what can happen when patience, trust, and the right connection give an animal the opportunity to become who they were always capable of being.
