Norse Celtic Song ∞ JÖRMUNGANDR | Why Must I Destroy What I Love?

What is something you wanted to protect? Jörmungandr, the World Serpent, has encircled Midgard for countless ages. He has watched kingdoms rise and fall. He has seen generations live, love, and disappear. He has known every sea, every shore, and every changing sky. And somewhere along the endless passage of time, the world he was destined to destroy became the world he wanted to protect. These songs tell the story of Jörmungandr not simply as the monster of Ragnarök, but as a lonely being bound to an unavoidable fate. He knows that one day he will release his tail. The seas will rise. Thor will come. And the world he has held for so long will reach its end. But that day is not today. Until then, he will continue to hold this small and beautiful world within his coils. — Songs — 0:00 I. I Hold the World Within My Coil A quiet song of the ancient serpent beneath the sea, watching the world change while remaining alone. 3:55 II. Why Must I Destroy What I Love? The sorrow becomes anger. Jörmungandr confronts the cruel contradiction of his fate: to become the end of the world he has learned to love. 8:20 III. Until I Let Go of the World After the storm comes acceptance. The end cannot be escaped, but until that day arrives, the world is still alive — and he will continue to hold it. The lyrics are performed in Old Norse-inspired language to evoke the ancient atmosphere of Norse mythology. If you enjoyed this journey, please consider subscribing.
