Confirmation (Probate in Scotland) can be needed for Scottish assets when the person lived abroad. Jeff's mother lived in New York and owned a flat in Edinburgh. Her Will was a US Will dealt with by a US court, and nothing had been done for the Scottish side. Two Scottish solicitors replied slowly and gave only generic advice. We worked out exactly what the Sheriff Court would accept in place of the original Will, which could not leave New York, and the application went through without a hitch. → Confirmation is the Scottish legal process (the equivalent of Probate in England and Wales) that gives an Executor authority to deal with someone's estate. Confirmation can still be required for Scottish assets even when the person lived abroad and their estate has already been dealt with in another country. 🔗 Someone lived abroad and left assets in Scotland?
