Seventy meals. Less than twenty-five dollars. And no, there is no secret ingredient, no coupon trick, and no long list of expensive things you are supposed to have in your kitchen.
Just a shopping cart, a few ordinary ingredients, and a way of thinking about food that most people never learn.
My grandmother lives on Social Security. After rent, utilities, and Medicare, she has about a hundred dollars left each month for food. So when I went shopping with her, I expected to learn how she made every dollar count.
What I didn't expect was how much food she could get out of a single grocery trip.
She spent $24.47 at Walmart. By the time she finished cooking, she had seventy meals.
And the most interesting part wasn't what she bought. It was how she used it.
Because the difference between a grocery bag that lasts a few days and one that stretches across weeks isn't always the amount of money you spend. It's knowing which ingredients give you the most meals, which foods can be used in completely different ways, and how to make sure nothing goes to waste.
In this video, we're following her entire process, from the grocery store to the kitchen, and seeing how she turns an ordinary shopping trip into a week's worth of meals and more.
Some of the choices she makes seem almost too simple to matter. But by the time you see how everything comes together, you'll understand why she has been doing this for years.
And there's one thing worth remembering before we start: these are the prices from her shopping trip, not a guarantee of what the same groceries will cost everywhere today.
Let's see what she bought, how she prepared everything, and how far less than twenty-five dollars can really go.
