Massey Harris 30 and Homemade Woodsplitter

An overview and description of the old 1951 or '52 Massey Harris model 30 and the 38/39 year old splitter made from discarded industrial and farm equipment parts. Working alone, the hydraulics operate fast enough with minimal throttle position. No need to waste fuel and have excessive wear to components without having the manpower on site to take advantage of that additional cylinder speed. The steel is all industrial construction waste as well as the hydraulics, the remaining components are from dismantled farm machinery. The pto universals actually came from MCRD Parris Island solid waste from Base Maintenance in 1974...fwiw. I traded an old tractor (Oliver 77) to my brother for this at the time he was planning to build a bigger and better one. I also donated some of the hydraulic components I'd scrounged for my own build. But hey..bird in the hand.... This splitter is IIRC functions by use of a single stage pump at 44 gpm which is responsible for its speed when operation is at 3450 rpm on the pump. I'm NOWHERE near that rpm in this video because as indicated, I am working alone. Besides, running slow there's less of a chance of losing a hand or finger....... A fellow needs to pick his nose on occasion you know. Is it pretty...? No, but neither am I and I work just fine and so does it. Maybe one day it will get a new paint job...but it is below low on the priority list. The old tractor serves me quite well in its original clothes too and will probably never receive a refresher course in the category of appearance. Pretty paint does not make an old tractor run any better. There are a lot of them for sale that look good, but won't hold a candle to this old dog. You'll note a lot of weird length and odd angled cuts in the video...that's because a lot of my wood is given to us by a local tree trimmer. I haul it away for free, so they cut and drop for speed and I deal with whatever I get. The nastiest of the nasty never makes it to the good burners and is relegated to the old burner in the shop and is not even stacked in the same wood shed. Hopefully the video goes fast enough for you to not get bored and pretty much all that's covered in this description is covered in voice over either at the beginning or at the end of the video. Normal safety precautions are observed like keeping all my fingers and other extremities intact. My shop dog doesn't even get her tail caught in the pto this time and no ones ear drums were damaged by excessive noise. I even have ansi rated composite safety toes in my flame retardant tennis shoes. I did wear out the thumb on my right hand glove though. Though you may find a bit of information good in the video, its entire intent was to be entertaining, even this part, simply because I refuse to be serious all the time. I did the serious thing on the job for 40 plus years so by dang, now that is not a requirement.
