Chicago, July 24, 1915. Nearly 2,500 passengers boarded the SS Eastland for a summer excursion. Before the ship could leave its dock, it overturned in the Chicago River. 844 people lost their lives. But this catastrophe had a history. For years, the Eastland had experienced stability problems. Warning signs existed. Questions had been raised. Why did the ship overturn? What did investigators discover? And why was nobody held criminally responsible? Discover the forgotten history of the SS Eastland through authentic archival photographs, historical testimony, engineering evidence and contemporary investigations.
