Dr. Rachael Coakley, developer of The Comfort Ability® Program (CAP), shared insights into her renowned program and how it supports young people living with chronic functional symptoms such as chronic pain.
During the webinar, Dr. Coakley explored how CAP draws on cognitive behavioral therapy principles to help young people cope with chronic pain. She discussed how the nervous system responds to pain, why understanding and targeting the nervous system can support coping, and how psychological tools can play an important role in pain management and healing.
Dr. Coakley also shared key takeaways from CAP for youth and parents/caregivers, including insights into neuroscience, practical coping and self-management strategies, and parenting tips. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of how to support young people living with pain as they work toward their goals while prioritizing coping, resilience, and healing.
