Perspective: PM Dhan-Dhaanya | Transforming Agriculture | 12 October, 2026

Every farmer wants the same things - a good harvest, enough water for the crops, access to credit when needed, and a fair return for the hard work that goes into farming. But not every district has the same opportunities, or faces the same challenges. So, how are these gaps being bridged? And can a more focused, district-level approach really change the way agriculture works on the ground?. That’s the idea behind the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, which has completed its first year. The scheme brings 100 agricultural districts into focus, bringing together 36 Central schemes across 11 ministries to address the specific needs of each district. The first year has seen district action plans take shape, along with a system to track progress. The government's dashboard shows the average score across these districts rising from 18.85 in April 2026 to 46.89 in August - a gain of 28.04 points across the scheme's six objectives. The first year also created platforms for farmers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to exchange experiences and explore new opportunities. But numbers and action plans are only the beginning. The real test is whether better coordination delivers higher productivity, stronger farm incomes, greater resilience and more opportunities for farmers. As the scheme enters its second year, we look at what has taken shape, what the early indicators tell us, and what it will take to turn district-level plans into real gains for farmers.
