Upgraded WPL C44RTR at Crawler World UK

Here's a run round the excellent Crawler World UK with my upgraded WPL C44RTR. The model started as the newly released C44RTR. This is a great model that performs well stock. See it's first run in the video below. Although great out of the box there were some improvements that I felt could be made. These haven't always increased outright performance but have resulted in a more scale and stable driving feels. It still has the excellent WPL RTR electronics, that offer class leading low speed control along with the selectable drag brake and lighting control. The rig has been fitted with weighted 3DP wheels these definitely give a more planted feel and with the mass of the metal axles keep the wheels in contact with the running surface better than the lightweight stock set up. However this added weight also dampens the performance over tricky rocky sections. It's now harder to get the rig to drag itself up over obstructions and out of steep climbs, where the lightweight RTR rig could bounce up and over the same. To give the durability required to deal with the added weight the drive shafts were swapped for the WPL metal replacements. The tyres are the soft WPL V4, again these helped overall performance greatly with less wheel spin climbing and control without sliding on descents. However they are a slightly smaller diameter and the softer compound does allow them to compress into gaps that the RTR tyres would more easily roll over. Alongside these modifications I have also fitted WPL oil filled shocks. These are more softly sprung than original and the damping does an amazing job of reducing the bounce so evident with the stock configuration. I think these could well be my favourite of the mods on this truck. To finish off the upgrades I have fitted my own design on axle servo mount. I have noticed while using these type of cars in their stock configuration with the chassis mount servo, that steering inputs can negatively affect how well the suspension can move and articulate over obstacles. With the servo repositioned this is remedied and bumpsteer eliminated. Overall I'm very pleased with how the rig has turned out. You can find the C44RTR over at the WPL Official Store.
