Dr. Marcelo Usseglio presents advanced degumming concepts related to the chemistry of phospholipids and demonstrate how process simulation models are used through two case studies (a PL-C assisted water degumming and a PL-A1 assisted acid degumming). Attendees will learn how to accurately calculate ratios of phospholipids and phosphorous content (MW) in oil; how to calculate diacylglycerol (DAG) and free fatty acid (FFA) increase according to phospholipid species/concentration and reaction conversion; and how to properly diagnose each enzymatic process in terms of degummed oil composition, oil yield and operative expenses.

About the Presenter: Marcelo Usseglio is process simulation specialist at ProSimTechs, He studied chemical engineering at the National Technological University in Buenos Aires and received his PhD in engineering from the National University of La Plata. He is passionate about translating real world of renewable processes into simulation models to optimize and to design processes, aiming to reduce both OpEx and CapEx. After 15 years of experience in vegetable oil refining, both in operations and in engineering, he has developed rigorous process simulation models to be used in process optimization tasks.
