If You Drive the Coast From Malibu to Palos Verdes, This Is What's Breaking — and Who Pays

From Malibu to Palos Verdes, the coast is breaking in four places: a collapsed private road on Sea Level Drive, a city road undermined by the ocean at Point Dume, a burned stretch of Pacific Coast Highway losing the land under it, and a landslide that Rancho Palos Verdes says will have cost it about $75 million of its own money by June 2027. At every stop we read the official records: what broke, who pays, and what happens next. One of the answers goes to a vote on November 3.
