Profile of Oscar Micheaux

This episode of The Movie That Moves We Podcast explores the life and legacy of Oscar Micheaux, one of the most important — and often overlooked — figures in American film history. While Hollywood was consolidating power and shaping its origin story, Micheaux built a parallel film industry outside the studio system, telling Black stories on his own terms. This episode explores how he financed, produced, and distributed his films, the ecosystem that supported race films, and why so much of his work was erased from the mainstream record. Inspired by Titans: The Rise of Hollywood (Netflix) and Oscar Micheaux: The Superhero of Black Filmmaking (PBS).
