Sutton Scarsdale Hall - the tragic fate of an English stately home

Sutton Scarsdale Hall was once a grand example of 18th century English architecture, but now stands as a haunting relic of the past. Built in 1724 for the 4th Earl of Scarsdale, the hall was a symbol of wealth and power, on a scale with Chatsworth House. When the owners' fortunes fell into decline, so did the hall. By the early 20th century, it was stripped of its valuable materials, with parts of the interiors now in America.
