Effective prayer begins with knowing how to pray according to God’s will. Apostle Joshua Selman teaches five biblical prayer models and explains how Scripture, faith and the Holy Spirit guide your prayer life.
How do you know what to pray when you’re facing confusion, repeated difficulty or a decision you cannot see clearly? In this Koinonia teaching, Apostle Joshua Selman begins with prayer as communication and fellowship with God. He reviews how prayer shapes the believer, builds trust, opens the way to ask for divine help and helps believers seek God’s direction.
The message then covers five prayer models: praying in the Spirit, declaring Scripture in faith, the prayer of inquiry, warfare and intercession, and thanksgiving. Each has a distinct purpose. When you need direction, the prayer of inquiry gives you a way to ask before acting. David’s inquiry in 1 Samuel 30 provides the biblical example. When you’re praying for others, the section on intercession shows how prayer can extend beyond your own concerns to people in authority and the communities they serve.
The teaching also examines what it means to pray according to God’s will. Apostle Joshua Selman explains how Scripture gives prayer a foundation and how the Holy Spirit helps believers pray when they lack clarity. He then draws on Mark 11:24 to distinguish believing, receiving and having. The closing teaching considers three ways an answer may come: divine intervention, grace that equips a person to respond, or help through other people.
As you watch, consider how to:
• Choose a prayer model that fits the need you’re bringing before God.
• Find a passage of Scripture that speaks to the situation and pray with understanding.
• Ask for direction when confusion or repeated struggle calls for a closer look.
• Set aside time for intercession and thanksgiving alongside personal requests.
• Recognise an answer that comes through grace to act or through someone who can help.
If you’re praying about a decision, start with the chapter on inquiry. Write down the decision and the part you need clarity about, then use the sections on Scripture and praying in the Spirit to guide your response. The service also includes corporate prayer and an invitation to receive Jesus Christ.
