This is the sixth ever Clash gig, and the first without future PiL guitarist Keith Levene. This is also notable for The Clash specifically as being the gig where White Riot is first performed, albeit with different lyrics. The setlist was in quite a transitional point at this point in Clash history, and four of the never recorded songs are dropped from the previous gigs and would never be played again, with the remaining unrecorded songs, How Can I Understand The Flies? and Deadly Serious (Dig A Hole) on borrowed time. Mick's early love song I'm So Bored With You is also on borrowed time, with Joe adding a couple shouts of "USA!" to the choruses. The venue is still very popular to this day. The 100 Club Punk Special (also commonly known as the 100 Club Punk Festival) was a two-day festival at the 100 Club in London, on the 20th and 21st September 1976. The Punk Special showcased eight punk rock bands across two days, all but one from England (Stinky Toys were from France): 20th September: Subway Sect (first performance) Siouxsie and the Banshees (first performance, completely improvised) The Clash Sex Pistols 21st September: Stinky Toys Chris Spedding & the Vibrators The Damned Buzzcocks The gig has become seen as somewhat of a watershed moment for the punk scene in England, not only for staging the first performances of some important groups, but also as a key event that began to move punk rock from the underground and into the wider music scene. #TheClash #Punk #PunkRock #1976 #WhiteRiot
