Welcome to Afriq DataScope — Statistics Explained Visually.
This video presents an animated data visualization covering African Countries by Internet Users (1990–2024) | Africa’s Digital Revolution over time.
Countries by Internet Users means comparing countries based on the number of people who use the internet.
What does it measure?
It can refer to the total number of internet users in each country, usually measured as people who have accessed the internet within a specified period.
Watch how internet adoption spread across all 54 African countries from 1990 to 2024. This animated bar chart race ranks countries by the estimated number of people using the internet.
The figures are calculated by multiplying each country’s total population by the share of individuals using the internet. Missing annual percentages are linearly interpolated; years before the first observation are set to zero, and missing years after the latest observation are carried forward.
Data sources and methodology:
Metric: Individuals using the Internet (% of population)
API: World Bank Indicators API — retrieved 2026-09-06
Method: Estimated users = population × internet-use percentage
Missing years: Linear interpolation between observations; pre-observation years set to 0; post-observation gaps carried forward.
Sources: World Bank World Development Indicators; International Telecommunication Union (internet-use indicator).
