I got stuck 800 meters off the Alaska Highway, deep in the Yukon wilderness, with no signal and no help in sight. If a random Australian couple hadn't stopped to help pull my car out, I genuinely don't know what would have happened.
This is the story of my drive from Northern British Columbia to Whitehorse — black bears and bison right on the highway, incredible drone shots of the Yukon backcountry, a roadside Maggi noodle break, and then everything going sideways when my car got stuck off-road.
After the rescue, we made it to Whitehorse — but the engine noise from the incident had me worried. I talk it through over dinner at a local Indian restaurant, try (and fail) to rent a car at the airport to continue toward Deadhorse, Alaska, and end up visiting two very different mechanics — one who puts my mind at ease, and one who builds cars from old junkyard parts and has the most interesting stories.
This is Part 11 of my road trip to Alaska — more coming soon as I make my way to Deadhorse.
