In this video we visit Eltham station a moderately busy station located on the Hurstbridge line Eltham station first opened on the 5th of June 1902 when the rail line was extended from Heidelberg it served as the original terminus of the line before it was extended to Hurstbridge in 1912 in 1923 the line was electrified and steam trains were replaced by normal suburban electric trains the current platform 1 station building was constructed in 1960 but most of the station was upgraded to a premium station in 1996 although during the off peak hour and weekend services do see trains terminate here and trains also use the island platforms here to change direction from Hurstbridge to go back to Flinders street and since trains sometimes terminate here there’s a stabling yard located just opposite the platform to allow for trains to park when terminating at this station and beyond Eltham the line remains as single track all the way to Hurstbridge with a passing loop at Diamond creek station so trains can safely travel to pass in different directions as well as footage at the station itself we also get footage on the diamond street level crossing beside the station in which this level crossing is not listed on the Victorian government to be removed by the Level crossing removal authority please note some of the footage was taken on a different day please enjoy ☺️ 👍
