Another busy few days at Larkin Oaks. We start this episode with a termite company treating the property, and once they wrap up, I get back to mowing. That doesn’t exactly go smoothly — both mower belts come off, which turns into an unexpected repair job. I end up using the tractor to lift the mower so I can get underneath and get everything back together. Later, Brie and Emily join us at the property and take a quick tractor ride. The next day, Ashley and I head over to the Quonset hut to start putting together a list of everything we’ll need for the upcoming rehab. While we’re looking things over, we start digging deeper into the building itself — its construction, its unusual features, and its possible history. The more we look at it, the more evidence seems to point toward our Quonset hut being an old WWII-era military surplus structure that was later moved and repurposed here on the property. Then I come back the following day and finally start cleaning it up, pressure washing the exterior and getting our first real look at what we’re working with before the restoration begins. Stay tuned for the next episode when we really get to work on it. There’s a little bit of everything in this one — property maintenance, equipment problems, family time, and some pretty interesting history hiding in plain sight. #LarkinOaks #QuonsetHut #WWIIHistory #MilitarySurplus #PropertyRestoration #OldBuildings #TractorLife #MowerRepair #PressureWashing #HomesteadProjects
