"Leave the Harp to Your Sister, You Have No Ear" - The Duke Asked Who Had Played It at Midnight

Regency historical romance, narrated in full. Marianne Fenmore is 28, the eldest daughter of a first marriage, kept at the cold end of every room in her father's house in Wiltshire. The harp in the music room was her mother's, carried out of Ireland by a bride who taught her daughter to play it before she died. After her father's death, her stepmother gave the harp to the younger daughter, who is taught by a master from Bath and plays it loudly and badly. At a house party got up to show a visiting duke a pretty girl, Marianne is told before the whole company that she has no ear, and to leave the harp to her sister. She says only that her stepmother is right, and she sits down. But after the house is asleep, Marianne comes down in the dark and plays her mother's own air on that harp, for no one at all. The household hears it and blames a frightened maid. And the Duke of Rothbury, a guest who cannot sleep and carries a grief of his own, hears it from the gallery 3 nights running. On the third night he comes down, and finds a book left open on the stand. Don't forget to subscribe so you won't miss new stories, and take the bell as well.
