Audit ethics and auditor independence explained simply for ACCA and ICAN students. Learn the five fundamental principles, ethical threats, safeguards and how to apply them to practical audit scenarios. Welcome to Lilian ACCA School—ACCA Made Simple! Do you struggle to distinguish self-interest from familiarity? Are you confused about self-review threats or independence of mind versus appearance? Do you know the definitions but find it difficult to explain an ethical issue in an exam answer? This detailed Chapter 4 lesson uses simple explanations, everyday analogies and practical examples to help you understand WHY ethical threats arise, HOW they affect judgement and WHAT appropriate action is needed. Avoid simply writing “be independent” or “apply safeguards”. Explain the particular problem, identify who should act and show how the action addresses the threat. IMPORTANT STUDY CLARIFICATIONS Read the on-screen notes alongside the audio. They clarify simplified statements in the discussion, particularly fee dependency and confidentiality. Fee percentages are not unconditional maximum fees or automatic bans. Relevant time periods, review requirements and the circumstances must also be considered. Confidential information must only be disclosed through appropriate channels where disclosure is authorised, permitted or required. Consult the requirements applicable to your examination syllabus. WHO IS THIS LESSON FOR? • ACCA Audit and Assurance (AA) students • ICAN students studying audit and professional ethics • University and college accounting students • Beginners who want auditing explained clearly • Students revising ethical threats and safeguards STUDY WITH ME Keep a notebook beside you. Pause before answering each scenario, explain the threat in your own words, then compare your reasoning with the discussion. Complete the homework before following the answer guidance.
