Sides may not be the main part of the meal but they help complete it. A meal feels unfinished without the things that come alongside it. In the same way many people in the church serve in supporting roles that may not always be noticed but their work strengthens everything else.
In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul describes the church as the body of Christ. Every part of the body has a purpose and no role is unnecessary. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” God designed the church so that every person, every gift and every act of service matters.
Some people lead from the front while others quietly organize, assist, encourage, prepare, support and help behind the scenes. These roles may not receive attention, but they are essential to the health and strength of the church. What you bring alongside others makes the whole thing better.
Ecclesiastes 4:9 reminds us that we are stronger together than alone. Supporting one another helps people stand firm, stay encouraged and continue growing. The church works best when people strengthen others instead of competing for recognition.
In fact, Jesus changed the way we think about greatness. In Gospel of Mark 10:42-45, He taught that true leaders are servants. Jesus, the Son of God, did not come to be served, but to serve others. That means serving behind the scenes is not a small job; it is Christ-like leadership.
Not every role is upfront, but every role matters to God. Often the greatest strength comes from those faithfully serving alongside others.
