Great Lakes Freighter CALUMET Enters Manistee River | 630-Foot Ship on Lake Michigan

THIS EPISODE Watching a Great Lakes freighter make its way through Manistee is something you have to see to appreciate. From the shoreline, we watched as the massive ship navigated the river channel, working its way through the curves and beneath the drawbridge on its journey toward Lake Michigan. The river channel is about 23 feet deep and continues for roughly two miles toward Manistee Lake. But seeing those numbers on paper is very different from standing along the shore and watching a freighter move through the channel. As the freighter made its way through the curves, passed beneath the drawbridge, and eventually returned toward Lake Michigan, we got to see the scale and precision involved in navigating this working waterway.
