I Rode 54 Miles on Florida’s Most Disappointing Bike Trail

I rode all 54 miles of Florida's Suncoast Trail — and it wasn't the cycling experience I expected. Florida has some incredible paved bike trails, but the Suncoast Trail is very different. For much of its 54-mile route, the trail follows the Suncoast Parkway, putting cyclists alongside a busy highway for mile after mile. So I decided to ride the entire trail and find out: is the Suncoast Trail actually worth riding? 🚴 In this ride: • 54 miles on the Suncoast Trail • Long stretches alongside the Suncoast Parkway • Florida heat with surprisingly little shade • Smooth pavement and long uninterrupted sections • The good — and the not-so-good — parts of the trail • Who I think this trail is actually best suited for The Suncoast Trail isn't necessarily a bad bike trail. The pavement is generally smooth, the route provides plenty of uninterrupted riding, and it's useful for cyclists looking for long training miles. It's also part of Florida's growing trail network and connects into longer-distance cycling opportunities. But if you're choosing a Florida bike trail for scenery, variety and a memorable recreational ride, there are some significant drawbacks.
