Tenured Teacher Notices to Remedy – Assessing the New Legislation (Illinois)

On July 24, 2026, Governor Pritzker signed Public Act 104-647 into law (formerly Senate Bill 2914), bringing significant procedural changes to the process for K-12 public school districts in Illinois to issue a notice to remedy (a mandatory notice to address remediable misconduct prior to dismissal) to a tenured teacher, while also making the board of education’s decision subject to binding arbitration.
