In 2009 Adrian Gas danced on Take That's Circus Tour. Seventeen years later, he was back as its choreographer. Along the way, he's danced for Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Kylie and Rihanna, and choreographed The Voice and Strictly Come Dancing. Now he's on the other side of the panel, and he's honest about what actually gets dancers booked.
The steps are often the easy part. Everything else is what makes you a choreographer.
In this episode:
• Why he'd rather you email twice than not at all
• The showreel mistake that loses him before the two-minute mark
• What happens behind the panel: the height, hair colour and budget calls you'll never hear about
• Why lateness is the fastest way off his next job
• How assisting, not choreographing, taught him the job
• Whether your follower count matters (to him, and to brands)
• The audition rival, the water bottle and the vodka
• Being starstruck by Paul McCartney while standing in for Elton John
Nervous in auditions? Try Adrian's challenge: get your friends to sit in front of you as a panel, film it, and make the awkward bit feel normal.
