Etwas frisst die Titanic – und niemand kann es aufhalten

Titanic Doku: Etwas frisst das Wrack der Titanic in 3840 Metern Tiefe – eine Tiefsee Doku mit echten NOAA-Aufnahmen über Bakterien, Rostzapfen und Schiffswracks. Seit 1912 liegt die RMS Titanic am Grund des Nordatlantiks. Doch das Titanic Wrack ist nicht tot: Rostzapfen (Rusticles) aus Bakterien und Pilzen lösen ihr Eisen Stück für Stück auf. 2010 wurde darin sogar eine neue Bakterienart entdeckt – Halomonas titanicae. Wie lange bleibt von der Titanic heute noch etwas übrig? In dieser Dokumentation tauchen wir mit Tauchrobotern hinab: zur Titanic, zum Flugzeugträger USS Yorktown in fünf Kilometern Tiefe, zu U-Boot-Wracks aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, zu einem Walfangschiff von 1836 und zur USS Monitor. Wir zeigen, warum manche Schiffswracks fast spurlos verschwinden, andere erstaunlich gut erhalten sind – und warum viele Wracks am Meeresgrund zu Oasen voller Leben werden.
