Episode 1304 Mavis (Thelma Barlow) tries to offer Albert (Jack Howarth) her homemade lemonade but he opts for orange juice. Alf (Bryan Mosley) confides in Maggie (Irene Sutcliffe) about Norman Leach’s (Freddie Lees) blackmail and his involvement in Bet’s (Julie Goodyear) attack. Maggie is upset and tells him she’s glad she turned down his offer to be mayoress. Annie (Doris Speed) thanks a puzzled Elsie (Pat Phoenix) for signing the petition for her to continue as landlady unaware that Lucille (Jennifer Moss) forged her name. Ernie (Stephen Hancock) receives a budgie from a vicar, who wants him to get shut of it. Elsie is floored by a troubling phone call. She reacts badly when Alan (Alan Browning) brings the budgie home so he leaves it with Mavis instead. Annie apologises to Alf for leaving him in the lurch and promises her full backing as mayoress going forward. He tells Annie about Norman Leach before deciding to go to the police.
