He never cases your house from a parked car. He interviews you instead, one small question at a time, until he knows your schedule, your alarm, your dog, your vacation weeks, and your kids' hours better than you realize you told him. "So what do you do?" "How long have you folks been here?" "That your truck?" "Any break-ins around here?" "Who do you use for the alarm?" "Is he friendly?" (about your dog) "Do the kids beat you home?" "You do the lake every summer?" "Mind if I grab your ladder?" "Did my package end up on your porch?" "Let me get your number." "Who checks on the house when you're gone?" "Would you keep an eye on our place?" The one question that should stop you cold, because a burglary done this way leaves nothing for a detective to photograph. Your real neighbors will ask half of these and mean nothing by it.
