CJP Protest: Abhijeet Dipke, Dhruv Rathee Detained, Kapil Sibal’s Big Statement on Supreme Court | Jantar Mantar
The CJP Protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi witnessed heightened tensions as Delhi Police detained protesters ahead of the Sansad March. Abhijeet Dipke, Dhruv Rathee and other protesters joined the demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal reacted to the developments, making a strong statement about public trust in the Supreme Court and indicating that the matter could be taken to the court. His remarks have added another dimension to the ongoing debate surrounding the Election Commission and the SIR process.
CJP, along with student organisations, had called for a demonstration despite Delhi Police denying permission, citing short notice. CJP leaders, including Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, maintained that the protest would go ahead, emphasising their right to peaceful assembly. Dhruv Rathee also joined the protest as demonstrators gathered in the national capital.
Heavy police and paramilitary deployment, barricades and security arrangements were put in place around Jantar Mantar and other parts of central Delhi. The situation raised questions about the police action, the detention of protesters and the next steps in the CJP campaign.
What happened on the ground? Why were protesters detained before reaching Jantar Mantar? What exactly did Kapil Sibal say about the Supreme Court? Watch this detailed ground report for the latest visuals, eyewitness accounts, protesters’ reactions and updates from the CJP Protest.
