Währing is is located in the northwest of Vienna on the edge of the Wienerwald. Währing is today due to numerous villas (e.g. cottage quarter) next to Hietzing and Döbling as a bourgeois noble district.Around 50,900 people live in Währing. In addition to "Gründerzeit" houses, the district also has a lot of greenery. This walk shows you the beautiful Türkenschanzpark. Due to the proximity to the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, there are many special and rare plants in the Türkenschanzpark, for example ornamental trees from China, Japan and North America. The park has a size of around 150,000 square meters. Türkenschanzpark has a very attractive landscape and is a popular destination for excursions because of its many ponds and streams, waterfalls and fountains. On September 30, 1888, Kaiser Franz Joseph himself opened the Türkenschanzpark, the name of which is said to derive from an Ottoman redoubt during the first Turkish siege of Vienna in 1529.
