Astoria Requiem (Friends After Good Sound performance 2026-09-12)

Performance of my piece "Astoria Requiem" by Friends after good sound (https://www.friendsaftergoodsound.com...) on September 12, 2026. "Astoria Requiem" is a piece memorializing the deaths of 25 fishermen in a storm on the Columbia River Bar on May 2, 1880. In the late 19th century, many salmon canneries in Astoria needed fishermen to supply them. These fishermen (mostly in pairs) would go out in 24 foot boats, rowing and floating out to the ocean on the ebbtide, harvest fish from the gill nets, catch fish, and float back into Astoria with the incoming flood tide. It was a dangerous profession, especially because of the lack of engines on the boat made the fishermen especially vulnerable to to the elements.
