In the spring of 1997 the biggest rock band in Seattle said it was over. Within eighteen months every band that made the Seattle sound famous had stopped, split or gone quiet, and rock radio replaced them with something that sounded almost the same and sold even more. This is the story of how grunge really ended, and why a radio law passed in Washington had as much to do with it as anything that happened in Seattle.
Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Sub Pop, Bush, Candlebox, Collective Soul, Matchbox Twenty, Creed and the Foo Fighters.
