A maintenance engineer fell eleven metres through a cabin floor onto concrete. The procedures that should have prevented it already existed.
Lee was in the office when the call came. He could tell from the tone of his advisor’s voice, before she’d finished the sentence, that it was serious. What he found in the workshop - the engineers waiting outside for the ambulances, two advanced first aiders looking at each other because the injuries were beyond anything they’d trained for - is the part he says will stay with him.
But the harder story is what came after. The investigation left Lee asking whether he had held the right people to account, and he talks candidly about something safety professionals rarely say out loud - the pressure that comes with writing one.
Lee is Head of HSE, Fleet, and Risk Management at Luxion Group, whose brands include Utilita Energy. This conversation describes an incident at a previous employer.
Real situations. Real leaders. Real decisions.
