Bulgaria's Hidden Beauty – Riding the Spectacular Iskar Gorge | Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX One Eagle. Endless Roads. Endless Discoveries. It's October 10th, 2026, and Guzzista in Viaggio – The Solo Eagle is back on the roads of Bulgaria for another motorcycle adventure! This time, I'm riding my faithful 2011 Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX 1200, affectionately called Stelviona, a motorcycle that has accompanied me for 15 years, sharing countless kilometres, adventures and unforgettable memories. Leaving Sofia behind, we head north towards one of Bulgaria's most fascinating natural wonders: the spectacular Iskar Gorge, where the Iskar River has carved its way through the majestic Balkan Mountains over millions of years. And what better way to discover such a place than from the saddle of a Moto Guzzi? 🏍️ THE JOURNEY Our adventure begins in Sofia, following the winding roads towards Novi Iskar and Svoge, before entering the magnificent Iskar Gorge. Here, the landscape changes dramatically. Towering limestone cliffs rise above the river, the railway follows the valley through tunnels and bridges, and small villages appear between the mountains. One of the highlights is Lakatnik, famous for its spectacular rock formations, caves and breathtaking scenery. But this journey is about more than beautiful landscapes. The Iskar River, approximately 368 kilometres long, is the longest river flowing entirely within Bulgaria. Its gorge cuts through the Balkan Mountains, creating one of the country's most remarkable natural corridors. Along the way, we discover Svoge, known for its chocolate-making tradition, and continue towards Mezdra, a place with a fascinating history dating back to ancient times. Our return takes us through Botevgrad, completing a circular journey through the Bulgarian countryside. 🌍 DISCOVERING THE REAL BULGARIA One of the things I appreciate most about riding through Bulgaria is its authenticity. There are places where life still seems to move at a different pace. Small villages, people gathering in the squares, roadside fountains, quiet country roads and landscapes largely untouched by mass tourism. Sometimes, these experiences remind me of the Italy I remember from my younger years, when travelling was less about reaching a destination and more about enjoying everything along the way. And perhaps that's what makes motorcycle travelling so special. On two wheels, you don't simply observe the landscape. You become part of it. You feel the temperature changing, smell the forests, hear the engine responding to every curve and discover details you might otherwise miss. For me, this is the true meaning of Guzzista in Viaggio. 🦅 THE SOLO EAGLE Guzzista in Viaggio is not simply a motorcycle channel. It's a personal journey through places, cultures, history and the people who make every destination unique. From the roads of Italy to the mountains and villages of Bulgaria, I share my experiences as an Italian Guzzista who believes that some of life's most memorable moments happen when we leave the familiar behind and follow our curiosity. And my Stelviona, with her unmistakable transverse V-twin engine and the legendary Moto Guzzi Eagle, continues to be my faithful travelling companion. Every road has a story.
