Take the entire Milky Way, all 200 billion stars, all 100,000 light-years of it, and drop it inside this galaxy. It would drift through like a grain of sand through a swimming pool. IC 1101 contains up to 100 trillion stars. And our best models of galaxy formation can barely explain how it got this big.
IC 1101 sits at the gravitational center of a galaxy cluster a billion light-years away, and it has been doing one thing for almost the entire history of the universe: eating. Every galaxy that drifted too close was slowly pulled in, torn apart, and absorbed. The faint glow surrounding it for millions of light-years isn't a halo, it's a graveyard. The mixed remains of every galaxy it ever consumed, still orbiting the thing that destroyed them.
