A major milestone in advanced cardiac care has been achieved at IMS & SUM Hospital Campus 2, Phulnakhara, under Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan University. 48-year-old Ranjita Swain from Jajpur district was admitted in a critical condition with extremely low blood pressure and an abnormally high heart rate of 130–140 beats per minute. Detailed investigations revealed a large 22–24 mm Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) — a hole between the upper chambers of the heart. The procedure was performed by Professor Dr. Deepak Narayan Lenka, Head of the Department of Cardiology, along with his team of specialist doctors. This marks the first procedure of its kind at IMS & SUM Hospital Campus 2, highlighting the hospital’s growing capabilities in advanced cardiac care.
