Goats and Sheep: Knowing the Difference Changes Everything | Animal Enterprises Ep. 2

Goats and sheep can work beautifully together on the same property. But knowing the difference between them is what makes that possible. In episode two of Animal Enterprises, we dig into what makes goats and sheep unique. Goats are browsers and land reclaimers. They work best in brushy, overgrown areas and can clear land that would challenge most other animals. Sheep are grazers and maintainers. They thrive on established pasture and keep it healthy and productive over time. Put them in the right place and they complement each other. Put them in the wrong place and you will know quickly. We cover multi-species grazing and why understanding each animal’s preferences is what makes it work. We also get into mineral and parasite management, two of the most important and most overlooked areas for anyone keeping small ruminants. And we wrap up with production options and breeds, which is one of our favorite topics. Meat goats, dairy goats, meat sheep, wool breeds, dairy sheep. The variety is remarkable and the right choice comes down to your land, your goals, and your market.
