Mjölnir is the legendary hammer of Thor, the Norse god of thunder, and one of the most powerful treasures of the Æsir. Forged by the dwarven smiths Brokkr and Eitri/Sindri, its unusually short handle was caused by Loki’s interference during its creation. Mjölnir serves not only as a devastating weapon against the jötnar, always returning to Thor after being thrown, but also as an instrument of protection, blessing, and consecration. Stolen by the giant Þrymr and eventually reclaimed by Thor, the hammer remains his greatest weapon and will be wielded against Jörmungandr during Ragnarök, when Thor slays the World Serpent before succumbing to its venom.
