On this Queer Money we are looking at 3 different retirement scenarios and finding out what retirement looks like with $500k, $1 million, and $2 million saved for retirement and what they might look like. Same couple. Same retirement. Three completely different universes. If you'd like to retire in Portugal but think you cannot, your retirement investments could land you residency without having to buy real estate and keep your money in the market. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/PGOF-3 Terry is 62. Pat is 65. They want to retire today. Inspired by Apple TV's Dark Matter, we're putting them into three retirement universes: 💰 $500,000 saved 💰 $1 million saved 💰 $2 million saved Which couple can actually retire? It's more complicated than “the ones with $2 million, duh.” Because retirement isn't just about how much you've saved. It's about which money pays for which years. 🌈 Here's what changes in each universe: $500K: Their biggest problem is the bridge between retiring today and Social Security, Medicare and other future income. $1 MILLION: The question becomes which accounts they should spend from and when. Cash? Taxable investments? Traditional retirement accounts? Roth? $2 MILLION: Now they may face a completely different problem: future taxes, IRMAA and potentially not spending enough while they're healthy enough to enjoy it. That's why we don't believe retirement is one magical number. At 62, where does your money come from? At 65, what changes with Medicare? At 67, what changes with Social Security? At 75, what does your slow-go life cost? At 85, what does your no-go life require? Retirement isn't one number. It's a sequence. 👉 Want to run your own numbers?
