Alejandro Acosta is guitarist and lutenist who specializes in the performance of Renaissance and Baroque instruments of the lute family. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from USC Thornton. In this session he plays Alessandro Piccinini’s “Toccata XIII’ on the Theorbo, recorded live in one take at the Red Rug Room in Los Angeles. The theorbo is a large, long-necked string instrument Invented in Italy around 1600 during the birth of opera, it was created to give singers a louder and deeper bass accompaniment than a traditional lute could offer. Red Rug Room is a live acoustic session series. No AI, no autotune, no overdubs, no click track, just real music!
