12 Ancient Sites in Utah That Scientists Can't Explain

Roughly 12,000 years ago, a family walked barefoot through shallow water in what is now the Great Salt Lake Desert. 88 of their footprints are still there — found by two archaeologists out the window of a moving truck, sitting on an active bombing range, appearing only after rain and then vanishing again. That's where this list begins, and it gets stranger from there. We're counting down 12 ancient sites in Utah that scientists still can't agree on: a cliff dwelling with 27 deliberate holes drilled through one long wall, a state park with Interstate 70 running straight through the village it was created to commemorate, a "dinosaur" carving that turned out to be a mud stain, and a canyon named after a creature that only ever existed as a chalk line somebody drew on a rock.
