Remains of old Leavesden Hospital explored

To many, Leavesden Country Park may just be like any other of its kind in Hertfordshire. But this site was for 127 years home to Leavesden asylum, a mental hospital that would house thousands of people over the decades. Though many elements of the hospital have been removed, some still remain. We were guided around these places by Leavesden Hospital History Association volunteer, Emma Frost. Several elements do remain, including the old admin building, the recreation hall, some houses and the entrance to the underpass beneath College Road, now filled in.
