Fachys. Ykal. Ar. Ataiin. Shol. Shory. That's the first line of a real book, about 600 years old, around 240 pages, written in an alphabet that appears nowhere else. The best codebreakers of the 20th century tried to read it. They failed. So did linguists, computers and AI.
This is the story of the Voynich manuscript: the plants nobody can identify, the circles of stars and the tiny women in green pools, an emperor who paid 600 gold coins for it, the book dealer who found it in 1912, the team of codebreakers who cracked Japan's codes and couldn't crack this, the strange rules of its writing, the "it's a fake" theory, everyone who "solved" it, and what the newest research says. Plus what we really know, and what is still a guess.
