China just built a highway that goes under the ocean, onto an artificial island, and across a giant suspension bridge, and it cut a two-hour drive down to about 30 minutes. 🌉🌊 The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link combines an undersea tunnel, two bridges, two artificial islands and an underwater interchange into one continuous road. In this video we go beyond the headline and look at how engineers pulled it off: tunnel sections built on land and sunk into the seabed, a bridge tall enough for container ships, and a construction effort with more than 15,000 builders. 📊 KEY NUMBERS FROM THE VIDEO Total length: 24 km, eight lanes, designed for speeds up to 100 km/h Undersea tunnel: about 6.8 km, 32 immersed tube sections plus a final joint, about 46 m wide Lingdingyang Bridge: 1,666 m main span, towers about 270 m, deck about 91 m above the water Zhongshan Bridge: 580 m main span, cable-stayed design Construction started in late 2016, the link opened on June 30, 2024 Travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan: from about 2 hours to about 30 minutes Peak day in April 2025: more than 178,000 vehicle trips 💬 Bridge, tunnel or both: what is the most impressive piece of infrastructure you have ever seen?
