English Description November 14, 2024|Sakaiminato and Mizuki Shigeru Road This journey began at Matsue Station, followed by a transfer at Yonago to the JR Sakai Line. The train departed from Platform 0, where the station, train exterior and interior were decorated with characters from GeGeGe no Kitaro. Sakaiminato became closely associated with yokai because Mizuki Shigeru spent part of his childhood in this port town. As a child, he heard stories about spirits, monsters and local beliefs from an elderly woman known as Nonnonbaa. These memories later became an important foundation for the yokai world in his manga. After losing his left arm during the war in Rabaul, Mizuki returned to Japan and worked through the eras of kamishibai and rental manga before becoming widely known for works including GeGeGe no Kitaro. Decades later, the yokai from his childhood memories and manga returned to Sakaiminato through trains, statues, shops and public spaces. After arriving at Sakaiminato Station, I continued toward Mizuki Shigeru Road. The approximately 800-metre street was first developed in 1993 with only 23 bronze yokai statues. The Kitaro-themed train also began operating on the Sakai Line that year. At the time of filming, 177 bronze statues were distributed along the road, shopfronts, bridges and surrounding streets. Before exploring the full route, I stopped for conveyor-belt sushi featuring seafood from Sakaiminato. The city is known both as the hometown of Kitaro and as an important fishing port in the Sanin region. The seafood and yokai culture represent two different sides of the same town. The walk continued through the Kitaro Yokai Warehouse, Mizuki Shigeru Road and Yokai Shrine. Shops along the street used yokai characters in signs, sweets, streetlights and souvenirs, while many buildings retained a retro atmosphere from the Taisho and Showa periods. I then visited the Mizuki Shigeru Museum, which reopened after renovation in April 2024. The museum presents Mizuki’s childhood, wartime experiences, manga career and research into yokai, as well as original artwork and characters from his major works. After learning about his life, the yokai statues outside felt different. They were not only tourist characters, but also reflected Mizuki’s experiences of war, death, nature and the unknown. The final part of the walk included an eyeball-themed dish, Yokai Paradise, Minato Shrine and some last-minute souvenir shopping. The next episode continues in Yonago, with an evening walk to the ruins of Yonago Castle. CC subtitles are available. 影片章節 / Timestamps 00:00 松江出發,在米子轉乘鬼太郎列車 / From Matsue to the Kitaro Train 00:45 米子站0號月台 / Platform 0 at Yonago Station 01:31 鬼太郎列車與境港地方發展 / Kitaro Train and Sakaiminato 02:11 抵達境港站 / Arriving at Sakaiminato Station 02:50 站前公園與妖怪雕像 / Station Plaza and Yokai Statues 04:44 境港海鮮迴轉壽司 / Sakaiminato Conveyor-belt Sushi 05:39 鬼太郎妖怪倉庫 / Kitaro Yokai Warehouse 06:55 水木茂大道與177尊妖怪青銅像 / Mizuki Shigeru Road 09:18 妖怪神社與眼球石 / Yokai Shrine 10:41 大正、昭和風格商店街 / Retro Shopping Streets 11:24 鬼太郎造型紅豆餅 / Kitaro-shaped Red Bean Cake 13:10 2024年重新開館的水木茂紀念館 / Mizuki Shigeru Museum 13:58 從拉包爾戰場到妖怪漫畫家 / The Life of Mizuki Shigeru 15:11 眼球造型料理 / Eyeball-themed Dish 15:35 妖怪樂園 / Yokai Paradise 16:21 港神社 / Minato Shrine 16:43 妖怪伴手禮 / Yokai Souvenirs 18:03 下一站:米子城夕陽 / Next Stop: Yonago Castle Hashtags #跑出東京郊外 #境港 #鬼太郎 #水木茂 #水木茂大道 #水木茂紀念館 #鬼太郎列車 #境線 #米子站 #妖怪神社 #鳥取旅行 #山陰旅行 #境港美食 #Sakaiminato #MizukiShigeruRoad #KitaroTrain #GeGeGeNoKitaro #Tottori #JapanWalk
