Ancient rituals, a fairground of puppets, a demon king's dance, and a final sacrifice.
Pagan Rite is a seven-movement, Stravinsky-inspired ballet suite of original compositions, written in the explosive language of early 20th-century Russian modernism. Rhythms that refuse to sit still, meters that change bar by bar, two keys colliding at once, brass that roars and strings that stamp like dancers' feet. Between the storms: an enchanted night garden, and a wry detour into neoclassical elegance.
Full symphony orchestra: shrieking woodwinds, eight horns, trumpets, trombones, tuba, timpani, bass drum, tam-tam, harp, piano and strings.
