Effectively you are climbing all the way up the Afan Valley however the Bwlch climb starts at the 40mph speed limit just after a terraced row of cottages on the right. The summit is reached just before a small layby which overlooks the Rhondda Valley. A short descent leads to the T junction with the A4061.
