Luffy makes having a rubber body look like one of the coolest powers imaginable. You can stretch your arms across a battlefield, bounce back from punches, turn your body into a slingshot, inflate your limbs and use elasticity in ways no normal human ever could.
But what would actually happen if YOU had rubber powers?
In this video, we break down the physics and biology behind an elastic human body — from recoil and momentum, to blood circulation, proprioception, durability, elasticity vs toughness, mass, and the hidden abilities you would need just to survive using these powers.
And while Luffy is the main example, we’ll also compare his abilities with other elastic characters like Mr. Fantastic, Elastigirl, Plastic Man and Jake the Dog to see just how unrealistic rubber powers really are.
And yes — Luffy’s Devil Fruit is actually the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. This video focuses specifically on the rubber-like properties of his body rather than the full abilities of Gear 5 or Nika.
So... would you still want rubber powers?
