Ressentiment It’s a funny spelling, but it’s how they do it in philosophy school. The concept of ressentiment traces a fascinating path back toward Aesop’s The Fox and the Grapes, the ancient fable behind our familiar “sour grapes”: when we cannot have what we want, the ego may protect itself by deciding that what we wanted wasn’t worth having anyway.🍇 Nietzsche gave that old human behavior a much larger philosophical vocabulary.
